In the past decade it has been my special pleasure to meet many Illinois K-12 educators from all sorts of backgrounds -- ranging from rural communities to suburban and inner-city neighborhoods, and from preschool to high-school settings. This has given me a much deeper understanding of your goals and special challenges. I'm now convinced that no one is more important to heightened scientific literacy and the enhanced public appreciation of natural world than you are.
As an Illinois Board of Education Professional Provider offering CEU/CPDU certification, I offer tailor-made professional-development presentations and workshops to help K-12 educators improve student achievement and appreciation in science. Topics include:
- Understanding the fascinating geologic history, rocks and minerals, & fossil organisms of our region.
- How to present content-rich, earth-science & biology field trips at suitable sites in your area.
- How to effectively explore and convey an interdisciplinary approach to the earth and life sciences.
- The importance of preserving & encouraging our region’s biodiversity.
-The evolution and importance of an overlooked but precious resource -- our region’s soils.
- Many other topics, tailor-made to participants’ particular interests and goals.
If you're interested in scheduling such an activity, please contact me at raywiggers@nheg.org and I'll be happy to discuss the details with you.
